My favourite music moment
Music has always played a significant role of my life, but the most influential moment happened at the end of my senior year of high school. Like many others, year 12 was a rough year. I was in a constant state of frustration as a tried to juggle good grades and a part-time job job at the small pizza joint down the street from school. I’d spend weeknights aimlessly rewriting exam notes praying for the information to stick, while weekends were spent with a phone stuck to the side of my face as I took tedious pizza orders.
Being the youngest employee, I was often assigned to do the jobs nobody wanted to do. I remember one specific night, maybe a week or two after I had officially graduated high school, I was stuck washing greasy pizza pans when I had an existential crisis. Listening to ‘Perfect Places’ by Lorde, I started thinking about all the perfect places I’d rather be than in the back of the dimly lit restaurant. In that moment I never felt more inspired to do more. The thought of wasting another summer in that place depressed me so much that following week I quit. That summer I blew through almost every last dollar I saved at the job, but it was completely worth it.
